"Begin the Beguine" is a song written by Cole Porter. Porter composed the song between Kalabahi, Indonesia, and Fiji during a 1935 Pacific cruise aboard Cunard’s ocean liner Franconia.
After Artie Shaw introduced the song to dance halls, MGM brought out the musical film Broadway Melody of 1940, in which Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell danced to “Begin the Beguine”
Julio Iglesias’s 1981 version reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart in December 1981
"La Paloma" is a popular song which has been been produced and reinterpreted in diverse cultures, settings, arrangements, and recordings over the last 140 years. The song was composed and written by the Spanish composer of the Basq region Sebastián Iradier after he visited Cuba in 1861.
Very quickly “La Paloma” became popular in Mexico, and soon spread around the world. In many places, including Afghanistan, Spain, Hawaii, the Philippines, Germany, Romania, Zanzibar, and Goa it gained the status of a quasi-folk song. It may be considered one of the first universal popular hits and has appealed to artists of diverse musical backgrounds.
